Clark County and the City of Henderson have experienced significant population growth over the last decade. Between 2010 and 2020, Clark County’s population grew by more than 300,000 residents (an increase of about 20 percent) and the City of Henderson’s population grew by more than 60,000 residents, an increase of about 25 percent (U.S. Census Bureau 2010 and 2020). The regional population is projected to continue to grow. This segment of I-215 currently experiences congestion due to the regional population growth, which has increased current traffic volumes that exceed the roadway’s capacity.

The project is located along I-215 between Pecos Road and Stephanie Street.

The Henderson 215 Project will widen I-215 from Pecos Road to Stephanie Street (two additional lanes in each direction), make improvements to interchanges and ramps, construct a diverging diamond interchange at Green Valley Parkway, and add a pedestrian bridge over Green Valley Parkway at Village Walk Drive.

Diverging diamond interchanges are often used at intersections located beneath or above freeway bridges. At a diverging diamond interchange, traffic briefly crosses over to the left (opposite) side of the roadway, safely guided by traffic signals at each crossover. This allows vehicles to turn left onto freeway on-ramps without stopping and without conflicting with through traffic.

Diverging diamond interchanges feature signs, striping, curbs, headlight glare screens and concrete barriers to guide and safely separate opposing traffic as it moves through the interchange.

Improved safety: DDIs have been shown to reduce the number of potential conflict points for drivers, which can lead to fewer accidents and injuries.

Better traffic flow: DDIs can improve the efficiency of left turns, which can reduce congestion and delay for drivers.

More efficient use of space: Because DDIs eliminate the need for dedicated left-turn lanes and traffic signals, they can be a more compact and space-efficient design for intersections.

Lower construction costs: DDIs can be less expensive to build than traditional interchanges, which may require more land and more complex engineering.

The project is funded locally by Clark County. The City of Henderson is constructing the project. The estimated cost for the project is $120M.

Construction should start in fall 2024 and last approximately 18 months. This schedule is subject to change.

The purpose of this online public meeting is to inform residents and businesses of the project details, allow comments, and answer questions prior to the start of construction.
